Home Filtration of Tap Water - Why Chlorine Has Got to Go!

Let's face it. Even though we are living in the 21st century, enjoying the benefits of amazing technical advances, we still clean our water with a method that was developed over 100 years ago. Over the last century we've come to realize that chlorination presents its own serious problems when it comes to purifying our water. The demand for home filtration of tap water is on the rise and along with it, the knowledge that chlorine has got to go!

Back when chlorination was first implemented it was considered "miraculous" when it came to ending the human devastation caused by water-borne diseases like cholera and typhoid. When it comes to the history of public health, this water disinfection method is still regarded as ground-breaking.

But as you know, with time comes change. The threat of water-borne disease has been overtaken by the dangers of chemical pollution. Examination of our water supplies has revealed the presence of over 2100 chemicals with a link to cancer.*

Many of these toxins come from pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics and industrial waste. Getting rid of these contaminants requires effective filtration...not disinfection.

Given these facts, its easy to understand why families regard home filtration of tap water as a growing necessity.

Chemical pollution created by modern industry isn't the only problem. Chlorine, itself, is a chemical that comes with its own set of potential dangers.

If you live in a house with aging plumbing, chlorine can leech heavy metals, like lead, in the water as comes in contact with metal pipes. These metals are highly dangerous...especially to young children.

Home filtration of tap water is also important in your shower. Chlorine creates chloroform gas in the steam from a shower.

This situation was recently brought to the public's attention with a statement by the EPA which asserted, "Due to chlorine and showering, virtually every home in America has a detectable level of chloroform gas in the air." If chloroform is inhaled it can trigger an asthma attack or seriously irritate your respiratory system.

Why are we still using chlorine? Local water authorities have been reluctant to update their water purification technology mainly because using chlorine is so cheap. But with more and more evidence mounting against chlorine it won't be long before city officials will have no choice but to revamp our water treatment systems.

But you don't have to wait. Home filtration of tap water is easy to locate and easy to afford and maintain. If you do some simple research on line, like I did, you'll be surprised at the variety of in-home water treatment systems that are available.

While no system can be 100% certain, there are some systems that are better than others. By that, I mean that there is a technology that is better able to filter out a wider variety of chemicals and bacteria, while greatly reducing chlorine levels. The system that I like to recommend also gets rid of odor-causing sediments and leaves important mineral content untouched.

I'll bet you never imagined that home filtration of tap water could be so comprehensive! Well, a new process called multi-stage filtration, has taken water purification to a new level.

With multi-stage filtration, no longer do you have to add supplemental equipment, like a carbon filter, to make sure you're catching the contaminants that systems like reverse osmosis and distillation cannot.

This technology is available in faucet filters, shower filters and whole house water treatment systems. You will find these appliances to be affordable, simple to install and easy to maintain.

Make no mistake. There was a time when chlorine was a necessity. But that time has passed and now home filtration of tap water has taken its place. Your health and the health of your family depends on the fact that chlorine has got to go!
